Lorie Goes to Summer Camp

Lindy and I had planned to take a trip to France this year to attend a painting workshop at a stunning little villa.  The trip of a lifetime for me for sure. I have always wanted to see that part of the world and to combine it with art and experience it with my dear friend and partner in crime….priceless!  Unfortunately, things didn’t open up like we had hoped and those plans will have to remain in my dreams for a while.  Instead, we decided to create our own painting adventure in Lindy’s brand new beautiful art studio.

And what an adventure it was!  Lindy lives near Sequoia National Park, which is absolutely spectacular.  We rode horses through the amazing (and enormous) sequoia trees, spotted bears (yes, bears!!) along the side of the road, and generally had a phenomenally wonderous time.  And those were just our morning adventures.

Our mornings were followed by some of the most creative and genuinely fun art making I’ve ever done.  Lindy had asked me to bring my painting rejects.  They were mostly from attempts at using different techniques or learning to capture different subjects.  We took those out and together turned them into abstract collage art.  Her studio is basically a very well-stocked art store, so we were only limited by our imagination.  It was insanely fun to collaborate on these pieces.  It seemed as though each time one of us hit a pause, the other would jump right in.  We each have different styles which added to the fun.  Some of it turned out great, and some of it…well, it will remain a work in progress ;). I certainly learned from Lindy, and she may have learned a little from me too.  If you happen to have an artistic friend, or simply one that’s willing to play, I highly recommend giving this format a try!

My camp story wouldn’t be complete without a shout-out for the resident chef and all-around great guy…also known as Lindy’s husband Lou.  Every evening was filled with delicious food, copious amounts of wine and lots of laughter.

My hope is that this is the beginning of wonderful new tradition; the next chapter at my place in Hawaii. Stay tuned!!
